Only five kilometres from the ski resort, beneath Soriška planina, stands the village Sorica. Sorica is a regional pearl sitting on vast slopes of a steep landscape, covered with green meadows and slender larch trees, full of murmuring wells. Here spring begins in fresh fragrances, filled with hope, summer in wavy grass, autumn in the first leaf that turns crimson red, and winter in piles of snow.
In all seasons Sorica is synonymous to a location of enjoyable leisure time. It can be a starting point for trips, hikes or visits to ski slopes. Ski centres Soriška planina, Cerkno, Stari Vrh, Kobla and Vogel are basically at close range.
On a hill above the village stands a baroque church with paintings of Janez Šubic and Ivan Grohar. In the midst of this natural splendour are scattered white houses, surrounded by gardens and tended fields, where grand hayracks with brick pillars stand like guards.
Sorica, together with its hamlets, is truly something special. In 1283 the first eight immigrants came here from Tyrol. Because natural resources were scarce, their successors made the village richer with diligence, resourcefulness and unique flavours of their era. This is further supported by the names of mountains, surnames and names of fallows.
Everyone who wants to get to know the special character of Sorica in the light of architectural culture, we advise them to embark on the Path of building heritage. They will learn about the fruit drying facility called “pajštuba”, the granary, hayrack, baroque church and many other things. Visitors, who want to explore the outdoors, can opt for a marked route at the edge of the village leading to the Šprucar waterfall. If you want to get to know more about the life of the painter Ivan Grohar, you can follow the well-tended Grohar’s path leading to his home in Geblerje, which is marked by yellow signposts. In Sorica you can visit the Grohar’s birth house with a memory collection, an ethnographic museum, a gallery and an art/music workshop.
Sorica is also the most filmed Slovenian village, since it was used as an outdoor movie set in as much as four Slovenian films (Lucija (Lucia), Pastirci (Little Shepherds), Ljubezen nam je vsem v pogubo (Love is the Ruin of Us All), Cvetje v jeseni (Blossoms in Autumn)).
